Ancient Stones, Living Stones
A presentation at St Giles Presbyterian Church

In the birthplace of Christianity, a diminishing number of Christian churches still bear faithful witness to the Gospel in the face of oppression. As it was in ancient times, so it is today. Only the names of the oppressors have changed.
In October 2016, Alan and Dorothy Herbert joined 12 other Canadians on the Middle East “A Moment of Truth” Study Tour sponsored by The Presbyterian Church in Canada. The trip was in response to the invitation to “come and see,” extended by Palestinian Christians who wrote the KAIROS Palestine document, “A Moment of Truth: A Word of Faith, Hope and Love from the Heart of Palestinian Suffering.” The experience was so moving that Alan returned to Palestine/Israel in March 2017 for the 10th International Sabeel Conference, “Jesus Christ Liberator,” based in Bethlehem and Nazareth.
While journeying through the classic “holy sites,” the Herbert’s presentation will focus on the challenges facing Christians, Muslims, and Jews living with the colonial legacy of the 100-year-old Balfour Declaration and western Holocaust guilt, now complicated by environmental degradation.
Come and learn about the situation in Israel/Palestine today, and how global churches can make a positive difference.
